ALTA A8 Mod. steel (8% Cr -chromium steels) is a modified version of AISI A8 steel, by replacing high W% with intermediate V%, this improves the toughness of steel to a certain extent. Meanwhile, increased chromium to be around 8%, its wear resistance get improved very much.
It can be used in situations where chipper steels like 1.2360, 1.2362 are insufficient in terms of wear resistance and tool steels like 1.2379, D2, SKD11 do not have sufficient toughness. ALTA A8-modified steel is perfect for making industrial knives for the wood-working industry. It's also used for stamping and cutting tools etc.
