Cold work tool steel
ALTA 6Cr4W3Mo2VNb(65Nb) Tool Steel Specification
Steel properties
ALTA 6Cr4W3Mo2VNb/65Nb steel is a new type of MATRIX steel, a cold-work tool steel with high toughness. Its chemical composition is close to the matrix composition of high-speed tool steel. Therefore, this material has high hardness and high strength like high-speed tool steel. But, because of this 65Nb steel has no excess carbides, it has higher toughness and fatigue resistance.
65Nb steel has high strength and toughness. Its toughness is much higher than that of tungsten high-speed steel W6Mo5Cr4V2/1.3343 and high-carbon high-chromium cold work tool steel. When used in cold extrusion dies and cold heading dies with pressures below 2450MPa, its service life is doubled compared to high-speed die steel and high-carbon high-chromium die steel. However, when used in dies with pressures exceeding 2450MPa and requiring high wear resistance, the compressive yield strength and wear resistance of 65Nb tool steel are insufficient.
Applications
² Manufacture of cold working dies with complex shapes and needs to bear much impact loads, such as cold heading dies and screw punches
² For cold extrusion punches used for steel parts, hardness 62~64 HRC
² Make large and medium-sized cold heading dies and precision stamping dies
Its service life is doubled compared with the high-speed steel and high-carbon tool steel when it's used for cold working die steel such as cold extrusion, warm extrusion, cold punching, cold heading, cold shearing, etc.
